April's OCCRWA Online Class: Inside the Psychic Character’s Mind with Mary O’Gara

About the Class:

Highly intuitive and psychic characters may seem to live a charmed life, but that’s an illusion you must dispel for your readers. In this workshop, we’ll delve into the minds of psychics with four forms of giftedness based on biology. We all have these gifts, but our ability to use them depends on our own willingness and discipline.

We’ll also look at 19 special gifts (or curses) attributed to soul growth or past lives. Those who have these gifts are born with them, although they may learn to deny and hide them. If they do have the gifts, their souls and life experiences will force them to use their abilities or fail in something important at some stage of their life.

Professional psychics usually combine natural gifts with a lot of study and discipline, but their abilities are still rooted in their original gifts. Some tools and methods work better for one person than another; in fact, some tools are useless for some psychics.

What makes life hard for a psychic character? Being wrong, for one thing. The raw material may be right, but that doesn’t mean the interpretation will be. Or the people making decisions may ignore the “unscientific” insights. Discrimination may make her cringe—or worse.

And then there’s the question of psychic protection. Everyone needs to work in a clear space. Sometimes it’s a matter of clearing the clutter or turning off unwanted impressions. Sometimes psychics need protection from deliberate evil, and the workshop includes resources for both kinds of protection work.

Topics range from working on criminal cases to channeling (both conscious and unconscious). We’ll talk about links between psychic gifts and creativity, but we’ll also look at the impact of discrimination on psychics. A bonus lesson has 25 ways to ruin your psychic character’s day.

About the Instructor:

Mary O’Gara’s earliest memories include gentle psychic training from her father, a gifted intuitive who used his abilities in his small town law practice. By the time she was 13, she was working in his office and receiving additional training from him. She’s descended from executed witches in both parents’ families (although her mother insisted the witch ancestors were “one of the things we don’t talk about outside the family).

For 38 years, Mary used her body as her only tool and used her gifts in her work as a newspaper reporter and later as a feminist organizer on local, state and national levels. She began a lifelong study of creativity in college (only later realizing how closely creativity and psychic abilities are aligned). Her first husband was less than happy when she told him (accurately) things like “Your new boss is an embezzler, and you’re going to end up doing his job when he goes to jail.”

In 1976, Mary began her apprenticeship in astrology. She also started studying tarot, but didn’t fall in love with tarot until 1981. She has been teaching psychic development, astrology and tarot workshops since 1983.

During all those years, Mary has continued to learn and study. She’s an associate instructor for Free Soul (http://www.freesoul.net) and teaches their brain-study-based simple methods of psychic development. Mary’s also certified in neurolinguistic programming (NLP), hypnotherapy, tarot, and astrology. She holds both a Ph.D. and a D.D. degree from the Academy of Universal Life in Seattle.

Mary’s online workshops include her own experiences with her own psychic gifts and practice as well as plentiful resources for every student’s research or personal development after the class ends. She relishes interactive workshops with an abundance of study questions and will develop special materials to fit a group’s interests.
This is a 4-week online course that uses email and Yahoo Groups. If you do not have a Yahoo ID you will be prompted to create one when you join the class, but the process is not difficult. The class is open to anyone wishing to participate. The cost is $30.00 per person or, if you are a member of OCCRWA, $20.00 per person.
