Morning Session:

Tara Lain

“Who Are You Really? Launching Your Author Brand”

We often think of branding as a sophisticated subject that ought to be left to established authors, but in fact it’s a foundational principle that would-be and newbie authors should be aware of BEFORE day one. In this highly interactive workshop, author and marketer Tara Lain, who regularly helps corporation take charge of their brands, will share what a brand is, who owns it, and how new and aspiring authors can begin shaping their brands even before that first book comes out.
Tara Lain writes the Beautiful Boys of Romance in LGBT erotic romance novels that star her unique, charismatic heroes. Her first novel was published in January of 2011 and she’s now somewhere around book 25. Her best-selling novels have garnered awards for Best Series, Best Contemporary Romance, Best Ménage, Best LGBT Romance, Best Gay Characters, and Tara has been named Best Writer of the Year in the LRC Awards. In her other job, Tara owns an advertising and public relations firm. She often does workshops on both author promotion and writing craft.
Afternoon Session:
Dana Fredsti
“Research and Romance for the Zombocalypse”

Dana will discuss what type of research she did (and is doing) for her Ashley Parker novels; why research is important even when dealing with zombies, and when romance, kissing and even *gasp* sex is appropriate when writing about the possible end of the world. Dana loves answering questions, so please feel free to ask about any aspect of the writing and publishing process or ??? Dana is flexible!

Dana is an ex B-movie actress with a background in theatrical sword-fighting (a skill she utilized in Army of Darkness as a Deadite and fight captain). She is the author of the Ashley Parker series (Plague Town, Plague Nation and the upcoming Plague World, Titan Books), touted as Buffy meets the Walking Dead, as well as the cozy noir mystery Murder for Hire: the Peruvian Pigeon, and several spicy genre romances written under the name Inara LaVey. Dana lives in San Francisco with her boyfriend David Fitzgerald (who writes erotica under the pen name Kilt Kilpatrick), their dog Pogeen, and a small horde of felines.
